Residents of the Town of Bridgewater:

The Bridgewater Fire Department (BFD) has been a professional volunteer fire fighting force here for you since 1876 and with the current worldwide pandemic, our support for the town’s residents is still as strong.

Every year, for the past 100 plus years, we have canvassed the Town residents in hopes of receiving nonperishable food items and/or monetary support so we could provide a better fire service. In years past, the Town of Bridgewater supplied most of the apparatus and equipment needed to conduct our duties. The BFD, also contributed by purchasing our uniforms, additional apparatus such as our first aerial ladder and many small appliances. As the world changes around us, so do we. Approximately 4 years ago we stopped canvassing for nonperishable food items as the attendance at our Fire Department Annual Fair was in a serious decline. We continued to canvass the town for monetary donations to assist us in purchasing new equipment and improved training facilities. This much needed financial boost assisted us in providing programs to assist firefighters and their families, improving their mental well being.

Since the start of the worldwide pandemic, we have had to change the way we do things again. In-person, non-essential training has been placed on hold while we switched to on-line training sessions. These are not the same as hands on training but are required to keep our skills sharp. Response to emergency calls have also changed by increased pandemic protocols such as reduced personnel in the responding apparatus and additional personal protective equipment.

Since we cannot complete our door to door campaign this year, as we always have, we are going to suspend that function for your and our safety. If you would like to send in a monetary donation to assist us in providing this essential service, you can mail a cheque to: 81 Dominion Street, Bridgewater, NS B4V 2J9 or you can send an e-transfer to bfddonation@bridgewater.ca Income tax receipts will be mailed.

You can always follow us by checking out our Facebook page (Bridgewater Fire Department) and our new website www.bridgewaterfire.ca

As the world changes, so must our service to you, the residents, but remember we will always remain

Chief’s Message

On behalf of the Officers and Members of the Bridgewater Fire Department I would like to welcome you to our website. Our Fire Department was established in 1876. We are very proud to serve the citizens of Bridgewater. With approximately 50 volunteers we provide emergency services for Fire, Motor Vehicle Collisions, Ice and Water Rescue and many others. Yearly, we respond to over 200 Emergency Calls in our community and provide assistance as requested by neighbouring Departments. Our most important asset is the dedicated group of committed and highly trained individuals who make up our Department. We hope you will join our “Team” by educating yourself and your family to be as fire safety conscious as possible. Thank you for visiting our website.
